In the story, the four siblings are evacuated from war-torn London and sent to live in a countryside mansion owned by a professor. While playing hide-and-seek, Lucy stumbles upon a wardrobe that serves as a gateway to the magical land of Narnia. She is the first to meet a faun named Mr. Tumnus, who informs her about Narnia's current state.

Narnia is under the rule of the White Witch, who has plunged the land into a perpetual winter and has the power to turn creatures into stone. However, there is hope in the form of Aslan, a powerful and benevolent lion, who is prophesied to return and restore Narnia.

The siblings soon discover Narnia for themselves and join forces with various talking animals, including Mr. and Mrs. Beaver. They learn about the prophecy of the four human children who will aid Aslan in defeating the White Witch.

Edmund, one of the siblings, is initially tempted by the White Witch but eventually realizes her deceit. Aslan, the true ruler of Narnia, sacrifices himself to save Edmund, a powerful and emotional moment in the story. However, Aslan's sacrifice is not in vain, as he returns and leads the final battle against the White Witch.

The story culminates in a grand battle, where good prevails over evil, and Narnia is finally freed from the curse of perpetual winter. The children are crowned as kings and queens of Narnia and rule alongside Aslan.

"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" is a timeless tale of heroism, sacrifice, and the triumph of good over evil. It is the first book in the beloved "Chronicles of Narnia" series by C.S. Lewis, and it has enchanted readers of all ages for generations.
