Google's AI Search Live makes search a conversation and Googling might never be the same

Picture from cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net
Read more on www.techradar.comGoogle Search Live is now generally available in the U.S.Search Live lets users talk to an AI that can also see through their phone’s camera. The feature remakes searching into a live conversation, offering real-time explanations and deeper web links.Google has released its Search Live feature in the U.S. after a while as an experiment for Google Labs. You can tap the new Live icon in the Google app and talk to an AI that not only hears your voice but also sees through your camera. The promise is sweeping but straightforward. Search won’t just answer typed queries anymore; it will carry on a conversation with you about the world directly in front of you. That means pointing your phone at the mess of cables behind your TV and asking which one is HDMI 2.1, or holding it up to a strange-looking pastry in a bakery window and asking Google Search Live what it is. You can ask questions aloud, get clarifications, follow up, and tap on linked resources without ever needing to type.Search Live uses what Google calls “query fan-out” to conduct its searches. The AI doesn't just try to answer your specific question; it also looks for answers to related questions to broaden its search and provide a more comprehensive response for you.The mechanics are straightforward. In the Google app for iOS or Android, the Live icon sits under the familiar search bar. Tap it, start speaking, and if you choose to enable camera sharing, Search gets visual context from your surroundings. If you’re already in Lens, there’s now a Live button at the bottom to flip into the new mode. From there, you can carry on a back-and-forth conversation about what you’re seeing.AI Search LiveBefore, spotting something unfamiliar meant taking a picture, typing a description, or guessing the right keywords. Now, it’s just “What’s this?” with your camera pointed. The immediacy is what makes it feel new.Search Live has a lot of potential uses beyond solving your home theater conundrums. It can guide you through hobbies, like explaining what all the tools in your matcha kit actually do or which ingredients you can swap for dairy-free alternatives. It can even become a science tutor. And yes, it can help settle arguments on game night, explaining rules without the ritual of flipping through crumpled instruction booklets.Search Live's answers may vary in quality, though. Vision models are notoriously finicky with lighting, angles, or ambiguous objects. To guard against that, Search Live is designed to back up its answers with links, encouraging users to click through to more authoritative resources. The AI is a guide, not a final arbiter. The broader context matters too. Every major tech player is racing to add multimodal AI tools that can see, hear, and converse. OpenAI has pushed vision into ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Copilot is threading into Office and Windows, and Apple is preparing its own moves with Siri. What Google has that others don’t is the muscle memory of billions of users who already "Google" things as the default for looking up the answer to any question. Search Live just adds interactivity on top of it.Of course, it also raises awkward scenarios. Do you want people pointing their phones at strangers and asking Live, “Who is this?” (Google says no, and is putting up guardrails). These are situations where AI’s limitations and ethical lines come into play. With Search Live no longer in beta, it's very clear how Google wants people to imagine the default Google experience. It changes the texture of the search from question and answer to a conversation. If the AI proves accurate enough, this could reshape how people think about information itself. Google has a vision where your phone is no longer just a window to the web; it’s a window that its AI can look out of and answer all your questions. You might also likeI've been using Google's new AI mode for Search – here's how to master itHere’s why you should be excited about Audio Overviews coming to Google SearchGoogle’s AI Mode can explain what you’re seeing even if you can’t

Gen V season 2 just revealed two huge details about Hamish Linklater's Cipher – and they're game-changers for the Prime Video show

Picture from cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net
Read more on www.techradar.comGen V season 2 just revealed some major details about CipherThis season's fourth chapter confirmed what powers he seems to possessIt also teased a potentially huge connection to Godolkin University's founderGen V season 2 episode 4 is out now – and it just lifted the lid on some big details about Hamish Linklater's Cipher. The recently installed Head of Godolkin University has been a hot topic of conversation among Prime Video viewers since The Boys' college spin-off returned to our screens. And, while I suspect there are many more big revelations concerning Cipher to come, the series' latest chapter has already answered one of our biggest questions about him and implied a big connection between the enigmatic Dean and another mysteryiousindividual.Full spoilers immediately follow for season 2 episode 4, titled 'Bags'. Turn back now if you haven't watched it yet. What are Cipher's powers in Gen V?Cipher's superpower is finally revealed in season 2's fourth entry – or is it? (Image credit: Prime Video)Admittedly, we were only introduced to Cipher in Gen V season 2's three-episode premiere. However, unlike every other person in a position of power at Godolkin University (God U), he didn't purposefully show off his powers in any of those entries.Until now, then, it wasn't clear if Cipher even had superhuman abilities, which is something Marie Moreau becomes convinced of in 'Bags'. During a private lesson where Cipher helps Marie to improve her blood manipulation abilities, she seemingly learns that he isn't a Supe. Indeed, she later tells Jordan, Emma, and Cate, she couldn't sense any Compound V – the serum that gives people superpowers – in Cipher's blood. So, that makes him 100% human, right? Yes and no.Confused? Let me explain. Before Gen V season 2's latest episode ends, it's seemingly revealed that Cipher is a telepath. He can not only read people's thoughts like Cate, but also mind control them. The latter appears to be proven by his ability to possess Jordan during their televised showdown with Marie, which is set up by Vought's PR team as a damage limitation exercise following the revelations Jordan made about the Supe-manufacturing corporation at the end of episode 3.How much has Cipher brainwashed God U's students so far? (Image credit: Prime Video)Obvious as it is to say, but the possibility that Cipher is an incredibly powerful telepath could have major repercussions moving forward. For starters, it shows why Cipher has always been two steps ahead of Marie and company in Gen V's second season. Indeed, it appears he can read their minds and see what they're thinking, and see what information they're hiding from him. For instance, how else would he know that the gang was covertly filming him during Jordan and Marie's fight in order to get a confession out of him that he might not have been a Supe? It's Cipher's ability to physically enter a person's mind and control them, though, that spells danger for Marie and her allies. If Cipher doesn't like what they're saying or about to do, he can easily manipulate them into saying or doing the opposite. The prospect of him being able to possess any of them without physically touching them – that's the only way Cate has been able to brainwash someone into doing something, FYI – is sure to spread mistrust through the group, too. After all, how can they know that their friends' words or actions aren't actually coming from Cipher? There are other questions that need answering, such as how Cipher hid his Compound V-infused blood from Marie. The key to answering that query may lie in the other big narrative development we learn about in the Amazon TV Original's latest episode, though. Speaking of which...Who is the burned man in Cipher's secret room? And what's its connection to Thomas Godolkin? The person in the hyperbaric chamber has to be Thomas Godolkin, right? (Image credit: Prime Video)While Cipher is conducting his one-on-one lesson with Marie, Cate and Jordan manage to infiltrate Cipher's home. They do so by stealing the keys from his bodyguard, who's forced to commit a lewd act on a nearby garden gnome by Cate.Anyway, after gaining entry, they use the keys to access to the secret room in Cipher's abode. That's the one behind a giant steel door, which Cate spotted when she was leaving Cipher's home in episode 3.Once inside, they find a heavily scarred man seemingly sleeping a hyperbaric chamber. These sealed chambers are regularly used in hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which sees patients breathe in 100% oxygen to accelerate the healing process. As Jordan snaps a quick photograph, though, the individual inside wakes up, which sends the pair fleeing for the exit. The identity of this mystery character, then, is unclear.Thomas Godolkin's charred body seems to have been recovered following this season's flashback scene (Image credit: Prime Video)Or is it? During the staged Marie-Jordan duel, Cipher reveals to Cate that the man inside the hyperbaric chamber is none other than his father. That revelation would be surprising enough on its own, but I posit the theory that this individual isn't just anyone. Indeed, I think it's Thomas Godolkin himself.During the 1967 flashback scene in one of the best Prime Video shows' season 2 premiere, we see Godolkin pass out due to carbon monoxide poisoning when a fire breaks out in a Vought laboratory. It does so after Godolkin's fellow scientists inject themselves with an early form of Compound V – a situation that quickly spirals out of control and seemingly leads to the deaths of everyone inside the facility, including Godolkin.Considering we don't see Godolkin die on-camera, though, it was always possible that he survived. Sure, he'll have been badly burned but, given the life-saving treatment in Vought's possession – remember, we saw Stormfront survive a similarly fiery, skin-peeling event in The Boys season 2 finale – there's no reason to suspect Goldolkin perished during that otherwise fatal lab disaster.Comment from r/GenVPredictably, this raises questions about what Cipher is up to. Is he keeping his dad alive with the hope Godolkin can be fully healed and restart work on Gen V's Project Odessa? Is Cipher trying to improve Marie's power level because her blood manipulation abilities hold the key to fully curing Godolkin? And, as Cipher claims, was God U really just founded with the aim of creating Marie and turning her into the world's most powerful Supe? I wouldn't be shocked if the answer to those queries are a resounding "yes".But wait, there's more. As the above Reddit post suggests, some fans believe Godolkin is actually puppeteering events from his hyperbaric chamber. Indeed, some viewers believe Cipher is not only Godolkin's son, but also a vessel through which he can manipulate the situation to his own end.Thomas Godolkin might be controlling events at play from behind the scenes (Image credit: Prime Video)We know Godolkin was the right-hand man of Frederick Vought, the Supe corp's founder and former member of the Third Reich. As evidenced by his collection of Nazi and KKK memorabilia in a secret room in God U's library, Godolkin also subscribed to far-right ideology. It's not a stretch to say Godolkin is an extremely wicked individual, then. But back to his links to Cipher. If Marie is right in saying she couldn't sense Compound V in Cipher's blood, it's likely that Godolkin is the individual with telepathic abilities. Using these powers, he can possess Cipher, make him do Godolkin's bidding, and engineer everything from the shadows for his, Homelander, and Vought's overarching plan for this new world order they're planning. But, what do you think about all of this? Let me know your thoughts and theories in the comments below. You might also likeGen V season 2 episode 1 reveals what really happened to Andre Anderson, and it pays tribute to the late Chance Perdomo in the most heroic way possibleI watched the first three episodes of Gen V season 2, and The Boys' college spin-off falls just short of being a grade-A student on Prime VideoGet the lowdown on what we know about The Boys season 5

Finally, you can now 3D print your own parts to repair the products you buy - and I genuinely hope other companies follow Philips' lead

Picture from cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net
Read more on www.techradar.comPhilips Fixables opens the door to DIY repairs with a program built around 3D printing filesOne tiny 3D printed part might mark a big shift in how repairs are doneDon’t get too excited, only one part is available, and it’s not widely accessible yet
Philips has launched an initiative called Philips Fixables, a program that allows customers to download and 3D print replacement parts for certain products.According to Tom's Hardware, this is an early-stage effort with a limited rollout so far, but one that signals broader changes in how tech companies may begin supporting product longevity. The project is currently being piloted in the Czech Republic, where Philips is collaborating with Prusa Research and LePub.
A rare move toward open-source repair
At present, the program includes just one part - a 3mm comb attachment for a Philips shaver - but the company says additional components will be added over time.To print a compatible part, customers will download the corresponding file from Printables.com, a platform widely used by hobbyists and makers. While the best 3D printers can replicate intricate parts with impressive accuracy, successful results will depend heavily on users following Philips’s recommended print settings. The company warns that deviations, such as reducing infill to save time or filament, could result in weaker or unusable parts. As with any new idea, it remains to be seen whether this will succeed in practice. Users may end up printing inferior parts that repeatedly fail, leading to frustration rather than effective repairs. It’s also unclear how quickly Philips will expand the program or what types of components will be included next. The Philips Fixables website allows customers to request specific parts. If approved, Philips says it will notify users when those parts become available for download. However, there’s currently no public timeline for turnaround, nor are there transparent criteria for determining which parts will be accepted. That may limit the program’s usefulness in its early form.Still, the move is noteworthy. In an era where the best 3D printers and laser engravers are often restricted by proprietary ecosystems, offering open-source repair files, even in a limited capacity, is rare. This initiative echoes recent efforts by other companies, such as Logitech’s partnership with iFixit, which also champions repair over replacement.

Nespresso's new sweet vanilla decaf pods could make coffee my new favorite bedtime drink

Picture from cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net
Read more on www.techradar.comI love coffee, but I also love my sleep, so after about 2pm I always switch to decaf to avoid being kept awake at night. It works well, but opting for decaf generally means you miss out on some of the more unusual flavors around – like the double-fermented passionfruit beans I got from my local coffee roaster recently, or Nespresso's white chocolate and strawberry coffee pods, which are an unlikely but delicious combination of flavors. My Speciality Coffee Association (SCA) instructor calls it 'cheating coffee', but when it tastes this good, who cares?Thankfully, just as alcohol-free beer is now mainstream and varied, we're starting to see roasters and manufacturers start to get more creative with decaf – and Nespresso's new Sweet Vanilla Decaffeinato pods are so comforting, they might just become my new favorite bedtime drink.
The Sweet Vanilla Decaffeinato pods work in any Neespresso Vertuo machine (Image credit: Future)
Coffee beans can have notes of vanilla by themselves, depending on the variety and the roast, and when extracted correctly (a tricky process to get right), coffee does have a natural sweetness. However, it's quite subtle, and if you want something more dessert-like, a coffee with added flavor is the way forward.Decaffeinated coffee is made by removing the caffeine from green (unroasted ) coffee beans by dissolving it in water. There are a few different ways to achieve this, and Nespresso uses two different methods. The first involves simply soaking the beans in hot water to dissolve the caffeine (known as the Swiss water process). This process leaves behind no residue that could alter the taste and character of the coffeeThe second method (the carbon dioxide process) is more efficient. Again, it involves soaking the beans in water to make them porous, but this time the soaked beans are placed in a pressurized container and exposed to CO2, which dissolves the caffeine.Once caffeine has been extracted from the beans, it can be re-used to make high-caffeine drinks like Nespresso's energy-boosting functional coffees.
The vanilla flavor works well with barista oat milk (Image credit: Future)
After loading a pod into my Nespresso Vertuo Pop (one of the best Nespresso machines around if you need something compact) and hitting the brew button, I was left with a cup full of creamy decaf coffee with a generous layer of foam. It's delicious by itself, and the added flavor doesn't overpower the taste of the beans, but I enjoy a milky bedtime drink and vanilla typically works well with dairy, so I was keen to see how it would hold up as a white coffee. The Sweet Vanilla Decaffeinato pods are mug-sized, meaning they'll fill a 230ml mug, but I still had room for a little caramel-flavored barista oat milk, or regular dairy milk. The flavors both combine very nicely, though regular milk would work best if you don't have a particularly sweet tooth.Hopefully we'll see even more decaf options soon – cheating or otherwise.

Crvena Zvezda lifted the trophy in 1990–91, while Celtic were crowned champions in 1966–67.This match brings together two storied clubs, and the Bhoys will still be smarting from their early Champions League exit at the hands of FC Kairat of Kazakhstan last month. Brendan Rodgers’ side struggled to create chances over both legs, but they bounced back impressively with a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership and a 4–0 win over Partick Thistle in the Scottish League Cup. Kelechi Iheanacho will be eager to mark his return to European competition with a goal, while Daizen Maeda and Benjamin Nygren are also expected to pose a serious threat for Celtic.Their opponents, Crvena Zvezda, have started the domestic season in red-hot form. Despite their own Champions League qualifying disappointment, their league performances have been nothing short of dominant: seven wins, 30 goals scored, and just five conceded underline their early superiority. Getting the most out of your collaboration strategy

Picture from cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net
Read more on www.techradar.comCollaboration platforms have become central to working life, with Microsoft Teams alone serving more than 320 million monthly active users worldwide. Everywhere you look, they are now part of workplace culture and have been a driving force for change in the use of voice services.Part of their ongoing appeal is that they are extremely simple to deploy and their familiarity flattens the learning curve for many users almost entirely. For IT teams, one of the key benefits is that they sit within an established supplier environment and, as a result, can help make procurement more straightforward.Sounds great, but communication infrastructure must also be able to adapt over time - for example, when a business expands or changes how it serves customers. Depending on the platform, any functional limitations may only become clear when a business needs to connect communications with other systems or adapt services for new teams and locations. The point is that inflexibility can create complications that significantly increase the initial cost of a collaboration solution; something that businesses can easily overlook. The hidden cost of inflexibilityBut what do we mean by complications? Well, any given collaboration platform may work perfectly well for everyday internal calling, yet they all have the potential to become restrictive when communications need to support more specialized processes. To break this down, everyday internal calls have relatively simple requirements because employees already know who to contact and how to reach them. However, in use cases such as customer-facing communications, employees may require calls to be directed based on factors such as location or the nature of the inquiry. They may also need access to relevant customer information while the conversation is taking place, whether it is held in a CRM platform or another business application, including a bespoke system where technology integration is more challenging. This is where the level and quality of the integration becomes extremely important, as any limitations may force employees to switch between applications or search manually for information that should be readily available.Get this wrong, and users may require a customer to repeat information, which can extend the interaction and cause frustration. Some businesses may also need more detailed insight into call activity when they are trying to identify problems or improve customer service. For many, this is a central objective when building these systems and processes.Adding workarounds, such as asking staff to look up customer records manually or using a separate connector to pass data between systems, is one option. However, these can make it harder for IT teams to manage the service consistently as requirements change. Why AI changes the equation (again)The issues are becoming even more consequential as businesses look to use AI to handle a greater share of customer communications, because these systems need access to the right information to respond usefully. For an assistant to deal with an inquiry properly, it needs to draw on the same customer information that a human employee would use. But when an inquiry cannot be resolved automatically, the conversation needs to reach the appropriate person without losing its context. This is where any disconnect between the communications environment and core business systems can really limit what an AI assistant can do well. AI that cannot access the right information can create an additional layer of friction for customers and employees.Ideally, these compromises should be avoided entirely. A business should be able to retain the collaboration tools employees already know while adding communication and integration capabilities where needed. In fact, seamless connectivity and interaction between the user, the AI tools being used, and the relevant customer and operational data should be a core objective rather than a nice-to-have. This means that the technology should be able to accommodate changing requirements without creating a dependence on manual workarounds, so organizations have full control over the pace at which they adopt new technologies and processes.Businesses planning to expand their use of AI, which is likely to include a great many of them, should consider whether their current communications infrastructure can support those connections. Granted, it is usually possible to retrofit systems to bridge functionality and service gaps, but if the objective is to use AI effectively across a growing number of customer interactions, flexibility needs to be built into the foundation from the outset. We've featured the best business intelligence platform.
