When carefree teenager Jay sleeps with her older boyfriend for the first time, she learns that she is the latest recipient of a fatal curse that is passed from victim to victim via sexual intercourse. Death, Jay learns, will creep inexorably toward her as either a friend or a stranger. Jay's friends don't believe her seemingly paranoid ravings, until they too begin to see the phantom assassins and band together to help her defend herself.

The novel is set in the quiet town of Barkley Cove, North Carolina, and it follows two intertwined storylines:

Kya Clark's Coming-of-Age Story:

The novel begins in 1952 with the abandonment of a young girl named Kya Clark by her family. They leave her to fend for herself in a rundown shack in the marshes. Kya grows up isolated from the town and learns to survive in the wilderness, becoming known as the "Marsh Girl" by the locals. She develops a deep connection with the natural world and becomes an expert in the flora and fauna of the marsh.

As Kya grows into a woman, she yearns for human connection but is hesitant due to past betrayals and rejections. Despite her isolation, she forms a few crucial friendships, notably with a local boy named Tate Walker, who teaches her to read, and Jumpin' and Mabel, a couple who secretly help her by providing essential supplies.

A Murder Mystery:

Interspersed with Kya's story is a murder mystery that unfolds in Barkley Cove. In 1969, a young man named Chase Andrews is found dead in the marsh. The townspeople quickly suspect Kya of being involved in his death because of her isolation and the rumors surrounding her. The novel follows the investigation into Chase's death, led by the town's sheriff.

Throughout the book, the narrative alternates between Kya's life story and the events surrounding the murder trial. As the story progresses, secrets about Kya's past are revealed, and the mystery surrounding Chase Andrews' death deepens.

Ultimately, "Where the Crawdads Sing" explores themes of loneliness, the power of nature, resilience, and the impact of love and betrayal. It is a story of survival, self-discovery, and the enduring human spirit. The novel captivates readers with its lush descriptions of the North Carolina marshes and its intricate characters, making it a compelling and emotionally resonant read.

Failed architect, engineer and vicious murderer Jack narrates the details of some of his most elaborately orchestrated crimes, each of them a towering piece of art that defines his life's work as a serial killer for twelve years.

Description

This course is designed to provide a complete overview of electric circuit analysis used in electrical engineering and electronics engineering. Electric circuit analysis is the most fundamental concept for electrical engineering, electronics engineering, and computer engineering. It is for that reason that electric circuit analysis is usually the first course taught in electrical, electronics, and computer engineering programs at universities, as basically anything related to electrical, electronics, or computer engineering stems from electric circuit analysis.

In this course you will learn everything about electric circuits and electronics, from the basics such as what an electric circuit is and the fundamentals of electrical quantities like voltage, current, and power, all the way to complex techniques for analyzing electric and electronics circuits. The course is roughly divided into the following sections:

1. Fundamentals of Electric Circuits and Electronics: in sections 2 and 3 of the course, we will discuss what an electric circuit is at the most basic level, followed by explanations of electrical quantities and sources of electricity. This is the foundation for electrical engineering and electronics engineering.

2. Basic DC Electric Circuit Analysis: in sections 4, 5, and 6 we will discuss the analysis of direct current (DC) circuits, starting from basic analysis techniques such as Kirchhoff's voltage law and Kirchhoff's current law (KVL and KCL), voltage division, current division, nodal analysis, and loop analysis. We will also be discussing how complex resistive circuits can be simplified into equivalent circuits for easier analysis of electric circuits and electronics.

3. Advanced DC Electric Circuit Analysis: in section 7, we will discuss advanced analysis techniques for electric circuits and electronics such as the superposition theorem, Thevenin's theorem, and Norton's theorem.

4. Energy-Storing Devices in Electric Circuits and Electronics: in sections 8, and 9, we will discuss passive components in circuits that are able to store energy: capacitors and inductors. We will cover the fundamentals of capacitors and inductors, how they store energy, and how to simplify complex circuits containing combinations of capacitors and inductors into simpler circuits for easier analysis of electric circuits and electronics.

5. Transients in Electric Circuits and Electronics: in section 10, we will discuss the analysis of first-order electric circuits during transients. This is where things start getting a bit more advanced, but we will solve several examples to illustrate how circuits behave during transients, as opposed to the stead-state circuits previously discussed.

In each section, several examples are solved to illustrate how to analyze practical circuits.

By learning all the fundamentals about electric circuit analysis and electronics, you will be able to continue studying other topics in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, and computer engineering, such as analog electronics, digital electronics, circuit design, electric machines, power systems, and more.

Ingredients:

1 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, finely diced
1 carrot, peeled and diced
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 sticks celery, diced
1 tbsp picked thyme leaves
80g pearl barley
1 vegetable stock cube, made up to 900ml
100g broccoli florets, finely sliced
1 tomato, diced
handful baby spinach leaves, chopped
4 tbsp pesto with fresh basil
extra virgin olive oil

Method:

Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick saucepan. Add the onion and cook until softened. Next add the carrot, garlic and celery and cook for 5 minutes.

Add the thyme leaves, pearl barley and vegetable stock and simmer for 25 minutes, or until the barley is tender. Add the broccoli and tomatoes, and cook for a further 5 minutes. Season to taste.

To serve, stir through the spinach. Ladle into bowls and spoon some pesto over each one. Drizzle some extra virgin olive oil over each one and serve.

Freezing and defrosting guidelines

Make the soup, then leave to cool at room temperature. Freeze (without garnishes or toppings) in a rigid container, leaving a bit of space for expansion, for up to 1-3 months. Reheat either from frozen or defrost in the fridge overnight. Once piping hot, add toppings or garnishes and serve.
