"Brass: Birmingham" is a complex board game with many rules and components, so I'll provide a simplified overview of how to play. Please note that reading the full rulebook that comes with the game is essential for a complete understanding of the gameplay.

Objective: In "Brass: Birmingham", players take on the roles of industrialists during the Industrial Revolution in Birmingham, England. The objective is to accumulate the most victory points by developing industries, building connections, and effectively managing resources.

Setup:

Place the game board in the center.

Give each player a player board and the corresponding discs and coal cubes.

Shuffle and place the industry tiles in stacks according to the two eras (Canal and Rail) on the board.

Distribute starting cards and money to players.

Place the victory point (VP) tokens and other components within reach.

Gameplay:

"Brass: Birmingham" is played in two eras: the Canal Era and the Rail Era. Players take turns performing actions, which may include:

Building Industries: Spend resources to build industries (e.g., coal mines, ironworks) on the board. These industries generate income and can be connected to other industries.

Taking Loans: You can take loans to finance your actions, but be careful as they come with penalties at the end of each era.

Developing Industries: Upgrade your industries to more advanced types when certain conditions are met.

Selling Cotton: Players can sell cotton to the market to earn money.

Building Canals and Rails: Establish connections between industries and cities by building canals and rails. This is crucial for generating points and completing objectives.

Selling Manufactured Goods: Use your industries to manufacture goods and sell them to markets for points.

Playing Cards: Utilize the cards in your hand for special actions and abilities.

Managing Income and Resources: Keep track of your income from industries, pay loan interest, and manage resources effectively.

End of Era:

Each era ends when all players have passed consecutively. During this phase, players score points for their connections and industries, replace industries on the board, and deal with loans.

End of the Game:

After both eras are completed, players count their victory points from connections, industries, and other factors. The player with the most points wins.
